Meet Lillian
16th May 2025Lillian’s reason for existing is one of the most interesting cases out of all my characters to date!
Lillian debuted in 2024 with my first GDevelop templates, the Music Jukebox. She only exists because of a post on Twitter that got more attention than initially thought, which led to GDevelop staff reaching out and suggesting I turn it into a template.
For the Music Template, I was originally gonna use my character Avadee as the mascot for it, but because anyone and everyone was going to be using the template, I decided to make a brand-new character with her own usage license. (More about Lillian’s license near the bottom of this page)
Lillian’s name is inspired by GDevelop’s old domain, where GDevelop games were hosted, which was liluo.io, before it became gd.games
Her design and colour theming was inspired by the GDevelop brand, the G logo inspired me the most, and I knew I had to incorporate that somewhere into her design. Originally, the G logo was going to be a hairclip, but then I instead opted to integrate the logo into her headphone design.
She was also inspired by the unofficial game engine mascot for Godot (Godot-Chan and Sophia) and the FL Studios mascot (FL-Chan). Lillian’s proto-name for a while was GD-Chan until I settled on Lillian.
My unsung rule is that Lillian will continue to be my personal mascot when it comes to making downloadable content for GDevelop. I am curious about using other game engines in the future, and I wonder if I’d continue to use Lillian or create another character entirely.
It’s kinda funny looking back on Lillian and how she came to be, she only exists due to a set bunch of circumstances, the universe works in many strange ways, it seems.
